We are pleased to announce April Cannon – www.runningmomphotography.com as April Photographer of the Month. See more of her work on Facebook! ?

What inspired you to use Woodland Albums? I have always loved a natural, soft, simple look. When I saw these albums online, I knew they were a perfect fit for my style.

What is the first thing that comes into your mind when you think of Woodland Albums? Quality that lasts and a perfect showcase for my photos. I love the fine art material in particular that I choose my photos to be printed on. Simply gorgeous.

Share with us your favorite Woodland album and why. What materials/ options do you choose? I absolutely love the Legend Album. I look at it and think “Wow”, which is what I want my clients to think when they receive their albums. The wrap around strap just gets me, it is what caught my attention in the first place. I love that there is an 8×8 option, but I always love the 12×12 album – more room to better showcase memories.

What type of clients do you think will enjoy these albums? Clients that have a romantic as well as an appreciation for Rustic. Really any client that appreciates top quality will love these albums.

Any suggestions for Woodland Albums? Please never stop making your Albums! I am in love!

How long have you been a photographer? It’s always been a hobby since I was a pre-teen, but it became a lifestyle and career choice about 8 years ago.

How did you discover your passion for photography? My Great Grandmother is one of my heroes. She always had pictures of family on her walls. I grew up only getting to see her once a year because she lived so far away. I loved arriving at her house and seeing pictures of all my family on her walls and always loved looking for the new ones. Distance does not mean we can not keep our family close.

How do you define your style? I love the soft, dreamy, romantic and simple look the best. Love lighting from behind The best photo is an awesome candid with all these aspects.  I love to keep things simple. I like the main focus to be my subjects not the props. I find people to be endlessly interesting and love to capture their individual personalities with my camera.  I love how other photographers incorporate props into their photos but it is not my style.  To really capture the mood of a photograph sometimes I need to  tweek my style to be more darker, lighter, or more crisp.

What would we find in your camera bag for a typical shoot? My Nikon d750, 24 – 70 mm 2.8 lens, my 85mm 1.8 prime lens and my 50 mm 1.4 prime lens. I do love a good prime lens.

Your favorite lens? My 50mm 1.4 prime lens. It is more intimate and I do not mind moving. But for my “on the go” kids, nothing beats the 24- 70mm 2.8 lens!

Share with us your favorite image and why. Although I would have had the lighting a bit different in this image, I love it. It is the imperfect that makes this image perfect. I was in between setting up off camera lighting for my families personal shoot and I look over and my kids and the cousins are making funny faces. Luckily I was able to capture it. I love it.

When you are shooting—how much of it is instinctual versus planned? Both. I like to have an idea what my clients like and give them an outline of a plan so they are more comfortable when they show up. From there I go with what works for the family ( most of the time this will be the littlest one).

What are some of your rules of thumb in photography? I have discovered there are none. There are a lot of photographers out there and if you truly love photography you have to go with what inspires you. The only rule I follow is “Know where the light is and how you want to use it!”

Whose work, photography or otherwise, are you inspired by and why? Jackie Jean, Beth Wade, Lisa DiGeso, there are so many more, but those are my top inspirations. All my fellow photographers inspire me, particularly the ones that their passion comes through in their photos.

What is it you like the most about being a photographer? Connecting with my clients. I love to talk while I am shooting to bring out their personalities and to learn all about them!

If you weren’t a photographer what would you be? Laugh, well I am also a physical therapist and a stay at home parent. I love where I am right now, so that is what I would be. So blessed that I can say that!
